What Is This Lemon Juice Diet?
I’ve recently been reading a number of articles about the Lemon Juice Diet which seems to be similar to the famous celebrity detox/diet, the Master Cleanse Diet and the lemonade diet. So I have decided to have a little discussion about them, especially the lemon juice diet.
I noticed that although they were being promoted as diets, heavy emphasis was also being made on the detox component of these diets. Theresa Cheung in her new book ‘The Lemon Juice Diet’ (2008) extols the benefit of a glass of lemon juice with warm water every morning so that the digestive system is given a good boost and clean as well as encouraging increasing the body’s metabolic rate. All good things if you are looking not only to lose weight but also get rid of those nasty toxins.
The Master Cleanser Diet seems to be a program that also cleanses the body and encourage weight loss. Because Beyonce Knowles mentioned it on the Oprah Winfrey Show that she had used the diet to get into shape before to filming Dreamgirls, there appears to be an increase in the popularity of the diet.
Having looked at the ingredients for the Lemon Juice, Master Cleanse, and Lemonade Diets I can say that they are the same:
2 Tablespoons of organic lemon juice
2 Tablespoons of organic grade A or B maple syrup
1/10 Teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
10 oz of filtered water
However from what I have read, a drink of saltwater is an added element to the Master Cleanse Diet. This works as a diuretic, which makes you pass more urine. Not altogether a good thing. Water itself is a safe diuretic and there is plenty of that in the lemon juice drink.
So it seems you can take you pick as to what you call it as they all seem to be same as far as the detox element is concerned but the weight loss and dietarty side to them can differ widely and need to be taken into account.
It important of course to mention that if you are thinking of doing any of these or other diets you get appropriate medical advice before you begin.
